Privacy Policy
Effective date: January 1, 2026
ChemFormat is a Google Docs™ Editor Add-on designed to format chemical notation in Google Docs™. We are committed to protecting your privacy and to handling Google user data in a transparent, minimal, and secure manner.
Summary
ChemFormat does not transmit your document content to any external server. All formatting happens inside Google's Apps Script sandbox on the document you have open. The only personal data we handle outside that sandbox is the email address used to purchase a license, which is processed by our payment provider, Lemon Squeezy.
License Verification
License key purchase and verification is handled by Lemon Squeezy, our payment and licensing provider. Please refer to Lemon Squeezy's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle your purchase and billing data.

Google API Services User Data Disclosure
This section describes how ChemFormat accesses, uses, stores, shares, retains, and deletes Google user data, in accordance with the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
1. Data Accessed
ChemFormat requests the minimum Google user data required to operate as a Google Docs™ formatting add-on. Specifically, the add-on accesses:
- The text content of the Google Doc™ that is currently open, and only when you actively invoke the add-on (for example, by clicking "Format" in the ChemFormat sidebar). This is provided through the standard Google Docs™ Editor Add-on interface (Apps Script
DocumentAppwith thedocuments.currentonlyscope). - The ability to display the add-on's user interface (sidebar/menu) inside Google Docs™.
- The email address associated with your Google account, only at the moment of license activation, in order to bind a Lemon Squeezy license key to your account.
ChemFormat does not request access to your Google Drive, your other documents, your contacts, your calendar, or any other Google service. It cannot read documents you have not opened or that you do not actively invoke it on.
2. Data Usage
ChemFormat uses the data it accesses solely for the following purposes:
- Formatting chemistry notation. When you click "Format," the add-on reads the text in the active document (or your current selection), identifies chemistry shorthand such as
H2O,SO4^2-, or10^-5, and replaces it in place with properly formatted subscripts, superscripts, degree symbols, and state symbols. The text is processed in memory inside the Google Apps Script runtime; it is not sent to any external server, used to train any model, or used for advertising. - License verification. Your email address is used to confirm an active ChemFormat license with Lemon Squeezy and to enable customer support for that license.
ChemFormat does not use Google user data for advertising, profiling, building user profiles, or for any purpose unrelated to providing and improving the chemistry formatting feature itself.
Limited Use affirmation. ChemFormat's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
3. Data Sharing
ChemFormat does not sell, rent, trade, or share Google user data with advertisers, data brokers, or any unrelated third parties. The limited sharing that occurs is solely to operate the service:
- Lemon Squeezy (payment and licensing provider) — receives your email address and billing details at the time of purchase or license verification, for the sole purpose of issuing and validating your subscription license. Document content is never shared with Lemon Squeezy. See Lemon Squeezy's Privacy Policy.
- Google LLC — the add-on runs inside Google's Apps Script infrastructure, so document content is processed by Google on your behalf as part of normal Google Docs™ operation. This is governed by your existing relationship with Google.
- Legal compliance — we may disclose data if required to do so by law, valid legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Red Pine Circle LLC or others.
No human at Red Pine Circle LLC reads your document content. Document content does not leave the Google Apps Script execution environment.
4. Data Storage & Protection
We minimize storage and rely on Google's hardened infrastructure for the small amount of license data we retain.
- Document content is never stored. Text from your document is processed in memory during a single Apps Script execution and discarded as soon as the format operation completes.
- License records (your email address and the Lemon Squeezy license key associated with it) are stored using Google Apps Script
PropertiesService, which Google encrypts at rest and in transit, and through Lemon Squeezy's systems for billing and license management. - All network requests made by the add-on (for example, to verify a license key with Lemon Squeezy) are made over HTTPS/TLS.
- Access controls. Access to license records is limited to authorized Red Pine Circle LLC personnel who require it to provide customer support or billing operations.
- We do not operate our own database of document text. There is no Red Pine Circle LLC server that holds the contents of your Google Docs™.
5. Data Retention & Deletion
We retain Google user data only for as long as it is needed to provide ChemFormat to you.
- Document content: not retained. It exists only in memory for the duration of a single format operation.
- Email address and license record: retained while your ChemFormat subscription is active, and for a reasonable period afterwards to honor refunds, renewals, and tax/accounting obligations.
How to request deletion of your data:
- Revoke ChemFormat's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. This immediately stops any further data access.
- Email support@redpinecircle.com from the address associated with your license and request deletion. We will delete your email address and license record from our systems within 30 days, except where retention is required for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes.
- Uninstalling the add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace also revokes its permissions automatically.
6. Changes to This Disclosure
If we materially change how ChemFormat handles Google user data, we will update this page and revise the effective date above. Continued use of the add-on after such changes constitutes acceptance of the updated disclosure.
